Description

This moist and flavorful Amish Apple Fritter Bread is packed with cinnamon-swirled apples and finished with a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for fall baking, it’s like eating an apple fritter in sliceable form.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for cinnamon swirl)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for cinnamon swirl)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and milk.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Peel and dice the apples, then toss with lemon juice.
  6. Fold the diced apples into the batter.
  7. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon to make the swirl.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mix, then add the remaining batter. Top with the rest of the cinnamon sugar mix and swirl with a knife.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  11. Prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Drizzle over cooled bread and allow to set before slicing.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread soft.
  • Room temperature ingredients blend better and ensure an even bake.
  • Add nuts, raisins, or cranberries for extra texture and flavor.
  • Use gluten-free flour and plant-based milk for dietary alternatives.
  • Store at room temperature for 3 days, or refrigerate up to a week.
  • Can be frozen up to 3 months if tightly wrapped.
