  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Topping:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the cream cheese filling: In a bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until creamy. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. In another bowl, cream the softened butter. Add eggs, vanilla, and sour cream. Mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually stir the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in diced apples.
  6. Spread half of the apple batter in the prepared pan. Spoon cream cheese filling over it. Add remaining batter on top.
  7. For the topping: Combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter. Stir in nuts if using. Sprinkle over the batter.
  8. Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Let cool completely before slicing.
