Description
Apple fries are a fun and delicious dessert that transforms apples into warm, crispy, cinnamon-sugar coated treats. With a flavor reminiscent of apple pie and a texture perfect for dipping or snacking, they are ideal for family gatherings, holidays, or casual indulgence.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 cup milk (or plant-based alternative)
- 1 egg (or flaxseed substitute for vegan option)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or coconut oil)
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples. Core and slice them into fry-shaped sticks, about 1/4 inch thick. Peel if desired.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. In another bowl, whisk together milk and egg. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients to form a smooth batter.
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each apple stick into the batter, coat fully, and place into hot oil. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- While warm, toss the apple fries in a cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend.
- Use plant-based milk and an egg alternative for a dairy-free or vegan version.
- Substitute sugar with erythritol or coconut sugar for a lower sugar option.
- Enhance flavor by adding nutmeg or vanilla extract to the batter.
