Description
A delightful pastry combining sweet blackberries and floral lavender with a creamy cream cheese filling, perfect for brunch or dessert.
Ingredients
- Puff pastry – 1 sheet (thawed if frozen)
- Cream cheese – 8 oz (softened)
- Fresh blackberries – 1 cup
- Dried culinary lavender – 1 tablespoon
- Granulated sugar – 1/4 cup (plus extra for dusting)
- Egg – 1 (for egg wash)
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon (optional, for brightness)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and dried lavender. Mix until smooth and creamy. If desired, add lemon juice for a touch of brightness. Set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases. Cut the pastry into squares, about 4×4 inches each.
- Take each square and make a shallow cut along the edges, about 1 inch from the edge, creating a border.
- Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each square. Top with a few fresh blackberries, gently pressing them into the cream cheese filling.
- Gently fold the corners of the puff pastry squares towards the center, overlapping slightly, to create a spiral shape.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the exposed pastry edges.
- Place the prepared danishes on the lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Once baked, remove the danishes from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with additional granulated sugar before serving.
- Enjoy the danishes warm or at room temperature.
Notes
