Description

A delightful pastry combining sweet blackberries and floral lavender with a creamy cream cheese filling, perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

  • Puff pastry – 1 sheet (thawed if frozen)
  • Cream cheese – 8 oz (softened)
  • Fresh blackberries – 1 cup
  • Dried culinary lavender – 1 tablespoon
  • Granulated sugar – 1/4 cup (plus extra for dusting)
  • Egg – 1 (for egg wash)
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon (optional, for brightness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and dried lavender. Mix until smooth and creamy. If desired, add lemon juice for a touch of brightness. Set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases. Cut the pastry into squares, about 4×4 inches each.
  4. Take each square and make a shallow cut along the edges, about 1 inch from the edge, creating a border.
  5. Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each square. Top with a few fresh blackberries, gently pressing them into the cream cheese filling.
  6. Gently fold the corners of the puff pastry squares towards the center, overlapping slightly, to create a spiral shape.
  7. In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the exposed pastry edges.
  8. Place the prepared danishes on the lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  9. Once baked, remove the danishes from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with additional granulated sugar before serving.
  10. Enjoy the danishes warm or at room temperature.

Notes
