Description
Caramel Crackers are an easy, crispy, gooey treat made with saltine crackers, buttery caramel, and melted chocolate. Perfect for holidays, parties, or a quick dessert fix.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sleeve of saltine crackers (or your preferred brand)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: sea salt, crushed nuts, or candies
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, breaking some if needed to fill gaps.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and stir continuously. Bring to a gentle boil for 3–4 minutes, then remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, spreading it to cover all surfaces.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until the caramel bubbles and turns golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the warm caramel layer. Let them sit for a couple of minutes, then spread melted chocolate evenly.
- Cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Once set, break or cut into pieces and serve.
Notes
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Watch the caramel closely to avoid burning.
- Allow to cool fully before cutting for clean pieces.
- Add toppings like sea salt, nuts, or candies for extra flavor.
- Store in an airtight container for up to one week at room temperature.
