Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
- Melt butter in a 9-inch round cake pan over medium heat. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the butter. Arrange cherries evenly on top.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract on medium-high speed until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes). Slowly mix in buttermilk and vegetable oil.
- Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined; small lumps are okay.
- Pour batter evenly over the cherry topping in the pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto serving platter to display cherries on top.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
