Description

Crème Brûlée Cookies combine the rich, buttery softness of classic cookies with the caramelized sugar topping of crème brûlée for an elegant and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon corn starch (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the mixture and mix until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, corn starch (if using), and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Form the dough into 1 to 1.5 inch balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced 2 inches apart.
  7. Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with granulated sugar before baking.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden and centers look slightly underbaked.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, caramelize the sugar topping with a kitchen torch for a true crème brûlée finish.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough to keep cookies soft.
  • Using corn starch helps make the cookies lighter in texture.
  • Almond extract adds a unique twist but can be substituted or omitted based on preference.
  • Caramelizing the sugar with a torch is optional but adds an authentic crème brûlée effect.
