Croissant Breakfast Casserole

  • Author: Chef Bella
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Halal

Description

This Croissant Breakfast Casserole combines the flaky richness of buttery croissants with a hearty, savory mix of eggs, cheese, and ham or sausage, making it a perfect dish for brunches or festive breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large croissants, preferably day-old, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or any dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar or a Swiss blend)
  • 1 cup diced cooked ham (or cooked sausage)
  • 1/2 cup sautéed onion (or your choice of vegetables)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs (like chives or parsley) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cut croissants into bite-sized pieces and layer evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
  4. Sprinkle diced ham and sautéed onions over croissants.
  5. Pour egg mixture evenly over the ingredients in the baking dish.
  6. Top with shredded cheese, spreading it evenly across the surface.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, until the top is golden and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use day-old croissants for best texture—fresh ones may become soggy.
  • Letting the casserole rest after baking helps it set and makes slicing easier.
  • Get creative with add-ins like bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for added nutrition.
  • Top with fresh herbs, avocado, or a drizzle of hollandaise for extra flair.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for 3–4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
