Description

Apple cobbler is a warm, comforting American dessert featuring spiced apples baked under a buttery, flaky topping. The sweet-tart apple filling pairs perfectly with the golden crust, making it a beloved treat especially in the fall.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 68 medium apples)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • For the Topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until apples are well coated.
  2. Transfer the apple mixture evenly into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
  4. Spoon dollops of the topping over the apple filling without fully covering it.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in it comes out clean.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving to let juices set.

Notes

  • Use coconut oil or vegan butter and plant milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Replace flour with gluten-free blend for gluten-free diet.
  • Maple syrup or stevia can replace sugar for a lower sugar option.
  • Add raisins, cranberries, or chopped nuts for extra texture and flavor.
  • Do not spread topping completely to allow apple juices to bubble through.
