Description
Apple cobbler is a warm, comforting American dessert featuring spiced apples baked under a buttery, flaky topping. The sweet-tart apple filling pairs perfectly with the golden crust, making it a beloved treat especially in the fall.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6–8 medium apples)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- For the Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until apples are well coated.
- Transfer the apple mixture evenly into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- Spoon dollops of the topping over the apple filling without fully covering it.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in it comes out clean.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving to let juices set.
Notes
- Use coconut oil or vegan butter and plant milk for a dairy-free version.
- Replace flour with gluten-free blend for gluten-free diet.
- Maple syrup or stevia can replace sugar for a lower sugar option.
- Add raisins, cranberries, or chopped nuts for extra texture and flavor.
- Do not spread topping completely to allow apple juices to bubble through.
