Description

Fried Mexican Ice Cream is a crispy, golden dessert with a cold, creamy vanilla center, combining hot and cold elements in each indulgent bite. It’s coated in a flavorful batter and fried to perfection, then topped with your favorite sweet garnishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Chocolate or caramel sauce (for topping)
  • Chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts (for topping)
  • Cherries for garnish
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scoop 4 large balls of vanilla ice cream and place them on a parchment-lined tray. Cover and freeze for at least 2 hours until firm.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, cinnamon (if using), and salt. In another bowl, whisk the cold water and egg together, then combine with dry ingredients to form a smooth, thick batter.
  3. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip each frozen ice cream ball into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  5. Fry each coated ice cream ball in hot oil for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Dust with cinnamon sugar if desired, top with whipped cream, chocolate or caramel sauce, chopped nuts, and a cherry. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Ensure ice cream balls are frozen solid before frying to prevent melting.
  • Do not overcrowd the frying pan to maintain oil temperature.
  • Customize with your favorite ice cream flavors and toppings.
  • Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
