Description
Fudge Chocolate Pop-Tarts are a delightful treat that combines rich chocolate flavor with a flaky pastry, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4–6 tablespoons cold water
- 1 cup chocolate fudge filling (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup chocolate icing (store-bought or homemade)
- Cocoa powder for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and granulated sugar. Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Once chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into rectangles, approximately 3 inches by 4 inches. You should have enough dough for about 8 rectangles.
- Place half of the rectangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of chocolate fudge filling onto the center of each rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges. Top each filled rectangle with another dough rectangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are crisp and the tops are set. They should be a rich golden brown color. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
- After the Pop-Tarts have cooled slightly, prepare a chocolate glaze by melting 1/2 cup of chocolate chips with 1–2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk until smooth. Drizzle or spread the glaze over the tops of the Pop-Tarts and let it set for a few minutes before serving. Add chocolate sprinkles or a pinch of sea salt for an extra treat if desired.
Notes
- For a gluten-free option, use a gluten-free flour blend.
- Replace butter with coconut oil for a dairy-free version.
- Try using different fillings like fruit preserves or peanut butter for a twist.
- Store any leftover pop-tarts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
- To reheat, simply pop them in the microwave for a few seconds.
