Description

Ice Cream in a Bag is a fun, hands-on way to make creamy homemade ice cream using simple ingredients—no special equipment required!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups ice
  • 1/3 cup kosher salt
  • Toppings of your choice (sprinkles, chocolate chips, fruit, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a small resealable plastic bag, combine half-and-half, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well and seal the bag tightly, removing excess air.
  2. In a larger resealable plastic bag, combine ice and kosher salt.
  3. Place the small bag inside the larger bag with the ice and salt. Seal the larger bag tightly.
  4. Shake the bags vigorously for 7–10 minutes until the ice cream mixture thickens to a soft-serve consistency.
  5. Remove the small bag, wipe off any salt from the outside, and scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones.
  6. Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use gloves or wrap the bag in a towel while shaking to prevent cold hands.
  • For a firmer texture, place the finished ice cream in the freezer for 30 minutes before serving.
  • Add cocoa powder or fruit puree to the mixture for flavor variations.
