Description
Ice Cream in a Bag is a fun, hands-on way to make creamy homemade ice cream using simple ingredients—no special equipment required!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups ice
- 1/3 cup kosher salt
- Toppings of your choice (sprinkles, chocolate chips, fruit, etc.)
Instructions
- In a small resealable plastic bag, combine half-and-half, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well and seal the bag tightly, removing excess air.
- In a larger resealable plastic bag, combine ice and kosher salt.
- Place the small bag inside the larger bag with the ice and salt. Seal the larger bag tightly.
- Shake the bags vigorously for 7–10 minutes until the ice cream mixture thickens to a soft-serve consistency.
- Remove the small bag, wipe off any salt from the outside, and scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones.
- Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Use gloves or wrap the bag in a towel while shaking to prevent cold hands.
- For a firmer texture, place the finished ice cream in the freezer for 30 minutes before serving.
- Add cocoa powder or fruit puree to the mixture for flavor variations.
- Use dairy-free substitutes to make a vegan version.
