Description

Orange Cardamom Crumb Muffins are a delightful treat that combines the zesty flavor of oranges with the warm, spicy notes of cardamom. They are easy to make and perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it with cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cardamom, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold the mixture together using a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon for the crumb topping. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Divide the muffin batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full. Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over each muffin.
  7. Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, remove the muffins from the oven and let them cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice and zest for the best flavor.
  • Don’t overmix the batter; this keeps the muffins light and fluffy.
  • Let the muffins cool slightly before serving to enhance their taste.
