Description

Butter & Brown Sugar French Toast is a warm, comforting twist on a classic breakfast favorite. Stuffed with creamy peanut butter and sweet brown sugar, this sandwich-style French toast gets perfectly crisp on the outside while remaining soft and gooey inside. Ideal for weekend brunch or an indulgent morning treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices bread (thick cut preferred for best results)
  • 1/3 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Spread peanut butter on one side of each of the four slices of bread.
  2. Sprinkle brown sugar over the peanut butter on two of the slices.
  3. Top the sugared slices with the remaining two slices, peanut butter side down, to form two sandwiches.
  4. In an 8-inch square pan, whisk together the eggs and milk until fully combined.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and spray lightly with cooking spray.
  6. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.
  7. Place the sandwiches in the hot skillet and cook for about 2 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use gluten-free bread to make it gluten-free.
  • Almond or sunflower seed butter can replace peanut butter for allergy-friendly options.
  • Substitute dairy milk with any plant-based milk like almond, oat, or soy.
  • Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract to the egg mixture for extra flavor.
  • Drizzle with maple syrup or honey for a finishing touch.
