Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix on low speed until fully incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- If using, fold in the white chocolate chips with a spatula.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment overhang and let cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- To make these gluten-free, use a gluten-free baking blend instead of all-purpose flour.
- For a dairy-free version, use vegan butter and dairy-free white chocolate chips.
- Try coconut sugar or a sugar alternative for a healthier twist.
- Add a teaspoon of almond extract or mix in chopped nuts for extra flavor and texture.
