Description

A delightful treat that combines the rich flavors of garlic and fresh rosemary, perfect for sharing at gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (500 grams)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast (7 grams)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (360 ml) (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (25 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (6 grams)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted (plus extra for greasing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients by whisking together all-purpose flour and salt in a large bowl, making a well in the center.
  3. Combine wet ingredients by adding the frothy yeast mixture, olive oil, minced garlic, and chopped rosemary to the well in the flour mixture.
  4. Form the dough by mixing until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the rolls by punching down the dough, dividing it into 16 pieces, and rolling each into a ball.
  7. Prepare the baking dish by greasing a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter and dipping each dough ball in melted butter before placing them in the pan.
  8. Let the dough rise again in the loaf pan for 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough is rising.
  10. Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack and brush with remaining melted butter.
  12. Serve warm, pulling apart the rolls to enjoy the flavors.

Notes

  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For longer storage, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze.
  • To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
