Description

A delightful mix of flavors and textures inspired by the beloved Taco Bell salad, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (about 1 oz or 28 g)
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes (about 2 medium tomatoes)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 4 oz or 113 g)
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 2 cups tortilla chips (about 1 bag)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the taco seasoning to the cooked ground beef along with 2/3 cup of water. Stir to combine and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and is heated through.
  3. In a large salad bowl or platter, layer the chopped romaine lettuce as the base.
  4. Spoon the seasoned ground beef over the romaine lettuce, creating a warm mound in the center.
  5. Evenly distribute the diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, and sliced black olives over the beef.
  6. Place the tortilla chips around the edges of the salad, creating a rustic border.
  7. Dollop the sour cream and guacamole on top of the salad, allowing them to glisten and enhance the visual appeal.
  8. Enjoy the salad immediately while the beef is warm and the tortilla chips are crisp.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, consider using ground turkey or a plant-based meat alternative.
  • Swap sour cream for Greek yogurt for a lighter version.
  • Add other toppings like jalapeños, corn, or avocado slices for extra flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 2-3 days.
