- 4 slices of day-old sourdough bread
- 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and halved
- 1/4 cup sugar, divided
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Flatten the sourdough slices with a rolling pin and arrange them in a tart pan.
- Combine cherries with 2 tablespoons of sugar and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Whisk together melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Pour the custard mixture over the crust and arrange the cherries on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set.
- Cool slightly and optionally glaze with cherry juice and sugar.
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- Reheat slices in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
- Can be frozen for up to a month, wrapped tightly.
