- 1 cup pitted dates, chopped

- 1/4 cup sliced almonds (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Combine chopped pitted dates with a tablespoon of flour and set aside.
- Beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
- Whisk together all-purpose flour, ground almonds, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Fold in the floured dates.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Sprinkle sliced almonds over the top of the batter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
