Description

A delightful Salisbury Steak recipe featuring savory beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom gravy, perfect for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, but do not overwork the meat. Shape the mixture into oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and tender.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet to enhance the flavor. Allow the broth to reduce slightly for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Return the cooked Salisbury steaks to the skillet, spooning some of the mushroom gravy over the top. Let them simmer in the gravy for an additional 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Notes

  • For gluten-free, use gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • For a lighter version, consider using ground turkey instead of beef.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To freeze, wrap patties tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil; they can be frozen for up to 3 months.
